Community Development Interventions

Community Development Interventions

Overview

The Gifted Community Center (GCC) is committed to improving the wellbeing of children and youth with disabilities in Kenya, particularly those living in underserved communities and informal settlements. Led predominantly by youth with disabilities, GCC addresses systemic barriers through research, capacity building, skills development, technology, and community-driven interventions that respond directly to local needs.

Through inclusive and sustainable programming, GCC empowers children and youth with disabilities to access opportunities, participate fully in society, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Our Approach

Community-led interventions designed and implemented with youth with disabilities. Research and advocacy that inform inclusive policies and practices. Capacity building, talent development, and technology-driven solutions. Partnerships that strengthen disability inclusion at community and national levels.

Our Core Pillars

  • Inclusive Education – Supporting access to quality, inclusive learning opportunities for children and youth with disabilities.
  • Sustainable Livelihoods – Promoting economic empowerment through vocational training, entrepreneurship, skills development, and employment pathways.
  • Health Programming – Improving access to sexual and reproductive health, mental health support, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence response services.
  • Leadership & Governance – Building the leadership capacity of youth with disabilities and strengthening their participation in decision-making processes.

Research and advocacy are integrated across all pillars to strengthen impact, influence policy, and promote disability-inclusive development.
